Hailing from Laval’s Fabreville neighbourhood, Shawn Volcy, better known as Shreez, is a fixture on the hip-hop scene. He enjoyed success right from the start, launching a movement with his group Canicule that breathed new life into Quebec rap. His lyrics, which blend joual with Montreal slang set to upbeat music, won him the 2019 SOCAN award.
A founding member of Canicule, his debut solo album “On Frap” topped 14 million streams across all platforms. After making his signing to Disque 7ieme Ciel official, Shreez released his second solo album, “JE SUIS CANICULE”, featuring contributions from artists such as Souldia, FouKi, Tizzo and Lost. The album launch took place at a sold-out Club Soda. Je Suis Canicule‘ was nominated for an ADISQ 2023 award in the ’Best Rap Album” category. He gave a remarkable performance at the ceremony.
In 2024 Shreez and his group Canicule released the album BOYZ. The single “Croise Les Doigts” was a real nugget, appealing to long-time fans as well as attracting a new audience. After launching the BOYZ album to a sold-out crowd at Club Soda, Shreez successfully released ON FRAP II on 4 April 2025.
Comprising 14 tracks, this album plunges listeners into Shreez’s world, a mix of melancholy and the story of his rise to fame. The artist once again demonstrates his versatility, alternating between hard-hitting trap sounds and deeper melodies, while showcasing his unique style, fusing joual, Creole and Montreal slang. Collaborations with French rappers Jogga and La Kadrilla, as well as Salgrimo and Jujuu, up-and-coming figures on the Montreal rap scene, enrich the project and give it a captivating musical diversity. But what makes this album unique is the way the tracks flow together: the transitions between instrumentals have been meticulously crafted by producer Alain to ensure a seamless listening experience, giving the impression that the album is one big song, a coherent and immersive musical journey.
