« Who will stand the test of time? Who will fall, and who will climb?’ Alice Longyu Gao has invented a world that inspires her generation’s tastes in music, fashion and fine art. Born and raised in the Far East, ALG is recognised worldwide as one of the pioneers who defined the Hyperpop genre.
What’s more, through his events and artistic performances, ALG orchestrates a culture and community that supports him. From his small flat in Manhattan’s East Village, he has been invited to DJ at institutions such as MoMA, the Parrish Art Museum and Galerie Perrotin. ALG has provided the soundtrack for fashion shows and events such as Acne Studios during Paris Fashion Week and Juicy Couture during New York Fashion Week. Based in Los Angeles, ALG released their critically acclaimed album Let’s Hope Heteros Fail, Learn, and Retire in 2023. Following the album’s release, he embarked on a 34-city solo world tour, with sold-out dates in London, Los Angeles and New York, performing live with an ensemble of harps and MIDI controllers. ALG’s artistic practice inspires other fields such as video games, television, film, anime and AI. As the featured artist on The Sims 4, Electronic Arts invited ALG to sing his simlish song for the game. Hulu chose ALG to create and sing an original song for its hit LGBTQ+ TV series Love, Victor 2. ALG wants to create art until the day he dies, and hopes his work will continue to challenge and inspire our humanity for a long time to come.
After a date at Supersonic Records last year, Alice Longyu Gao is looking forward to seeing you at La Boule Noire on 20 November!
