What is Marla Wallace? A sacred union of rap, neo-R’nB, jungle and Uk Bass. In short, Nia Archives and Tribe Called Quest serve up a B-52’s in the company of Ol’dirty Bastard. His razor-sharp vocals and smooth flow surf over this mishmash of mutant sounds.
In her walkman, her influences are Zebra Katz, Erykha Badu and Lauryn Hill.
The Le Havre-born singer rolls on D’NB modern beats coupled with influences from London’s underground rave scene during its golden age. While it’s suffering, love and sisterhood that embody the very essence of her songwriting.
Her stage name, a double homage to the characters of Marla Singer in Fight Club and Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction, is enough to bottle her universe: that of an anti-heroine par excellence.
Her first 7-track EP, The Glitch, was released in March 2021. Sometimes alone on stage, sometimes accompanied, for several years she has oscillated between obscure cellars and established venues, leaving no audience by the wayside whatever the conditions.
In 2023, Marla Wallace is back at it with Hello, the first single from her forthcoming project.
