Great news for fans of polished, classy songwriting: the spellbinding Nadia Reid is back with a new single (and video), ‘Changed Unchained’, and has announced a European tour to follow. The New Zealander, freshly signed to Chrysalis Records, will be in France on 08 March 2025 at La Boule Noire, Paris.
A lot has changed since ‘Out of My Province’, the album Nadia Reid released at the beginning of March 2020, when the Covid pandemic plunged the world into confinement. In her native New Zealand, restrictions were among the most severe in the world, with the country’s borders remaining closed for more than two years. Reid defended the record on stage as best she could, put her plans to move to the UK on hold and bent to the rhythm of everyday life.
On ‘Changed Unchained’, Reid moves away from her early folk tendencies. ‘I always feel uncomfortable with the word folk and being a folk singer. It makes me cringe a bit. It’s too restrictive.’
As well as being a foretaste of what’s to come, ‘Changed Unchained’ closes the chapter on her first three albums, like a kind of trilogy; music that belonged to a time when everything hadn’t yet changed.
