Harrison Patrick Smith’s new project revels in the bloghouse aesthetic of the late 2000s with an air of post-Covid abandon. Both anthemic and cheeky, The Dare’s quotable bangers make a strong case for the revival of electroclash.
“Dancepunk and electroclash represent a lot of my personal ideals when it comes to music,” he explains. “It should be fun, dangerous, somewhat punk and primitive, but always tasteful and elegant.
Harrison is a fixture on New York’s burgeoning club scene. His DJ residency, Freakquencies, attracts hordes of downtown hipsters to sticky-floored underground clubs every Thursday. After being held back for three years by a global pandemic, the city’s restless youth are hungry for an artist who embodies the party. In the role of The Dare, Harrison Patrick Smith steps up to the plate.
