Born in Paris, Solal grew up surrounded by music and poetry, shaped by the influence of his father, a singer and orchestra conductor. His sound draws as much from the American soul of the Jackson 5 and Otis Redding as it does from Bob Dylan’s folk or the alternative sounds of contemporary R&B, from Steve Lacy to Jordan Ward. From this blend of influences emerges music that is intimate, sensitive, and modern.
